THE FOOD TRUCK BUSINESS

Today,we share with you the inspiring journey of how Soulspectrum enabled transgenders in Chandigarh to set up their own food truck business. This is perhaps the most important initiative undertaken by us and here is everything you need to know!

It all started when the founder, Ishnoor Singh, met Mx. Dhananjay Chauhan- A transgender activist in Chandigarh.

A famous bollywood actor had donated a food van to Dhananjay as a part of a promotional campaign for their upcoming movie. However, problems arose when the city authorities did not grant the required permissions to dhananjay to set up the food van. The van was donated in the year 2021 and for the next two years dhananjay was unable to set up their business. Perhaps a primary reason behind not being able to do so stemmed from the fact that Dhananjay was a trans individual.

SoulSpectrum was founded on April 2023. When our team got to know about this issue in december of the same year, we wasted no time and started working tirelessly to help Dhananjay set up their business and break stereotypes. This was important as in India, transgenders are individuals who are looked down upon and are often deprived of opportunities that could help them succeed in life.

It took us 3 months and finally we were able to set up the food vans at the VIP Road, Zirakpur on 28th March 2024.

In these 3 months, SoulSpectrum supported Dhananjay constantly. We helped them identify an ideal location to set up the business after an in-depth survey and observation of ideal locations. We also helped them in negotiating with the parking rent of the van and even provided them with the intitial funds (which were donated by all the members and volunteers) to set up the business.

The journey was not without its challenges, but with unwavering support from Soulspectrum, these individuals overcame societal stigmas and financial hurdles. Through hard work and dedication, they mastered the art of culinary delights and business management. The food truck not only served delicious food but also served as a symbol of hope and equality.

As the food truck gained popularity, so did the cause it represented. Soulspectrum's efforts bore fruit as these individuals not only gained financial independence but also earned the respect and admiration of the community.
